LEBANON, Ohio (AP) - A small plane crashed Wednesday in a wooded area of southwestern Ohio, but authorities said the two people aboard the aircraft were not injured.

The crash near Lebanon was reported around 11:40 a.m. by a passerby who happened to spot the plane in some trees. The aircraft apparently had developed engine trouble and the pilot was trying to return to the Warren County Airport when it crashed, according to the the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The pilot and a passenger were able to safely escape form the plane. Their names have not been released.

No one on the ground was injured in the crash. Authorities closed a stretch of a nearby state highway so crews could remove the plane from the trees.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
