SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -

The driver in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 in South Burlington last week has died of his injuries, Vermont State Police said.

James Sheldon, 59, of Waterbury, died Thursday, police said.

The crash happened on Friday, Sept. 4, when the car traveling south went off the road and into the median, hitting a rock pile and then a large concrete culvert, police said. Several passing drivers stopped and helped the passenger get out of the vehicle and to an ambulance. Sheldon, the driver, was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center with critical injuries.

The passenger was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released from the hospital. The crash is under investigation, police said.
