BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) - The Maine Fire Service Institute will be able to train firefighters from around the state in advanced firefighting techniques using equipment made possible by a federal grant.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is giving the institute $228,000 to buy a new fire and safety training trailer as well as other gear.

Maine Fire Service Institute director Jim Graves said the grant “provides critically needed resources for vital training that will enhance the safety of the public and our emergency responders.”

The institute is a department within Southern Maine Community College, located at the college’s Brunswick campus. It provides training to fire agencies around the state.
