DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A suspect in a shooting death in Des Moines earlier this month is no longer facing first-degree murder charges, police said Tuesday.
Michael Jermaine Jacobs, 27. was charged after Sean Newman, 36, was found shot to death in a neighborhood near Drake University on Sept. 2. Police had said that Jacobs shot Newman.
Charges against Jacobs were dropped after new evidence found inconsistencies in statements from a witness, police said in a news release. No further information was disclosed.
Whitney Ann Davis, 33, is still charged with first-degree murder in Jacobs’ death.
