SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah man armed with a bow and arrow, shotgun and knife was killed Tuesday night during a shootout with police officers near a suburban high school, authorities said.
Utah officers said they shot and killed a 27-year old man who asked police to shoot him following a confrontation near Viewmont High School in Bountiful, a suburb of Salt Lake City.
The man was killed in an ensuing fight with police, Lt. Dave Edwards of the Bountiful Police Department said. It is currently unknown who fired first.
Davis School District officials said the high school started school two hours later on Wednesday because of the fatal police shooting. The district said no faculty, staff or students were involved.
Three officers from the department are on administrative leave and the Davis County protocol team is currently investigating the fatal shooting.
Police said their body cameras were on at the time of the incident.
This is the first fatal police shooting in the department’s history, KUTV-TV reported.
