Democratic presidential candidate Joseph R. Biden refused to say Tuesday if he would pack the Supreme Court, a plan some progressives in his party are pushing since the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“Whatever position I take in that, that would become the issue,” he said during the first presidential debate in Cleveland.

“The American people should speak,” he added, saying they should call their senators.

But President Trump jumped in, asking his challenger once again if he will pack the court.

Progressives have said they could increase the number of justices to 15 instead of the current nine to counter the conservative majority.

“He doesn’t want to answer that question,” Mr. Trump said.

“Will you shut up man?” Mr. Biden quickly responded when interrupted. “This is so unpresidential.”
