White House press secretary Jen Psaki responded to a question about how President Biden plans to help small business owners by saying “he nominated a woman to lead the Small Business Administration.”

In a video posted by the White House Tuesday evening, Ms. Psaki addressed Twitter users’ questions ranging from coronavirus vaccines to what she thinks about pineapple pizza. (It’s “gross,” she said.)

“What is President Biden doing for my small business?” one Twitter user asked the press secretary in the short clip.

“First and foremost,” Ms. Psaki answered, “he nominated a woman to lead the Small Business Administration who formerly worked there.”

“The second thing is he signed an executive order to make it easier for minority-owned small businesses to get access to the funding that they need,” she said. “And third is that in the American Rescue Plan, there’s currently about $60 billion to help a range of small businesses get access to additional funds.”

President Biden named Isabel Guzman to lead the SBA, but multiple women have held the position before her. The most recent administrator was Jovita Carranza, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump.

It’s not the first time Ms. Psaki has used the gender-inspired non-sequitur.

On Jan. 27, the press secretary was asked about a massive spike in trading for GameStop and whether there had been “any conversations with the SEC about how to proceed.”

“Well, I’m also happy to repeat that we have the first female treasury secretary and a team that’s surrounding her and often questions about markets,” Ms. Psaki replied at the time. “We’ll send [you] to them. But our team is, of course, our economic team, including Secretary [Janet] Yellen and others, are monitoring the situation.”
