The Sept. 27 edition of The Washington Times featured a headline on page A8 in World News that fails to live up to the high standards of your newspaper. In an AP article by Lorne Cook and Colleen Barry, the headline blared “Right-wing party with ties to Mussolini wins big in election.” Once inside the article, the only reference to the eye-catching headline was that Giorgia Meloni’s party had historical ties to Mussolini. There was no further explanation of how the party was tied to the notorious dictator.

Just think how a similar headline could have read when Joseph Biden won in 2020: “Party with ties to slavery, segregation, opposition to civil rights and cooperation with the Ku Klux Klan heads to White House.” Such a headline could just as easily have been written, but would it have truthfully painted the current administration? Washington Times, I expect more from you.
