Lefty Driesell’s legacy at Maryland nearly happened elsewhere

The 85-year-old, larger-than-life figure who put Maryland basketball on the map when he arrived full of bluster in 1969 was recognized for his ground-breaking tenure as the Terps head coach Saturday afternoon in a home game against Ohio State when the school raised a banner with Lefty's name on it from the rafters of the Xfinity Center.

‘Respect’ is Wizards’ participation trophy

FILE - In this Jan. 23, 1991, file photo, New York Giants defensive coordinator Bill Belichick, center, goes over the defensive game plan with other coaches as they prepare for Super Bowl 25 against the Buffalo Bills, in Tampa, Fla. The Giants defeated the Bills 20-19 in Super Bowl 25 on Jan. 25, 1991. The top "D" almost always prevails against the top "O," going 5-1 so far when those teams meet to determine a champion _ even though each offense was led by a quarterback who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame (or, in the most recent case, is expected to be). LOVERRO: 25 dark years since Redskins’s last Super Bowl

There are franchises that have never had what the Redskins had with Joe Gibbs. Take for example, the Atlanta Falcons, who will face the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. The Falcons came into existence in 1966. This will be their second Super Bowl game.

Like the NFL, the college game has a concussion problem

Before we start worrying about paying college players, the more important goal may be to protect them -- former college football players are showing the same signs of brain damage seen in former NFLers.

Aaron Rodgers one bright spot in sloppy Wild-Card weekend

After three games with lopsided scores, lack of drama and the continuous story that has plagued the NFL of poor officiating, the Green Bay Packers' future Hall of Fame quarterback reminded everyone that the playoffs are supposed to feature the best the league has to offer.
