Monday: Bob Zeller, author of “The Civil War in Depth: History in 3-D,” will present a slide show of photos and discuss the “best photos” of the Civil War. The Capitol Hill Civil War Round Table will meet in Room 1302 of the Longworth House Office Building, Independence and New Jersey avenues SE, with refreshments at 6 p.m. and the talk at 6:30 p.m. For more information, 301/262-3768.


March 6: A Confederate Navy Day celebration will begin at 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Annapolis and then move to St. Anne’s Church Parish on Church Circle, where writer Jack Trammell will speak on the Confederate submarine Hunley. For more information, e-mail

March 11: Ed Parker, a member of the Chesapeake Civil War Round Table, will speak on “Oliver Wendell Holmes and the Civil War” at the group’s meeting at 7 p.m. in the Cade Center for Fine Arts, Room 219, Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway, Arnold, Md. Today: Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site in Alexandria will observe Black History Month with a slide-illustrated lecture by museum Director Susan Cumbey on “The Shaw Memorial: A Tribute to the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.” The lecture will be at 1 p.m., admission $5, and reservations are suggested.
