Maryland basketball player Travis Garrison turned himself in to Prince George’s County police yesterday afternoon in connection with assault and sex offense charges related to an incident last year at a College Park bar.

The senior is charged with second-degree assault and a fourth-degree sex offense in connection with an incident that purportedly occurred at about 1 a.m. on Oct. 27 at the Cornerstone Grill and Loft in College Park. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Garrison appeared before a District Court commissioner yesterday and was released on his own recognizance, said Cpl. Diane Richardson, a spokesman for the Prince George’s County Police. Richardson said the investigation began when the purported victim notified police within hours of the incident.

A statement released by the university athletic department last night said it would review the case to determine whether any discipline would be necessary. The department declined further comment.

Garrison is averaging 9.7 points and 6.5 rebounds and has started nine of the last 10 games for the 23rd-ranked Terrapins (11-4, 1-2 ACC). Maryland’s next game is tomorrow against Wake Forest at Comcast Center.
