Female ‘frenzy’

“Dozens of female teachers have been caught with male students in recent years, and the airwaves are full of outrage that we’re letting them off the hook. On cable news, phrases like ‘double standard’ and ‘slap on the wrist’ are poured like pious gravy over photos of the pedagogue-pedophile-pet of the month. ‘Why is it when a man rapes a little girl, he goes to jail,’ CNN’s Nancy Grace complains, ‘but when a woman rapes a boy, she had a breakdown?’ …

“[T]his frenzy — I’m trying hard not to call it hysteria — reeks of overexcitement. Sex offenses by women aren’t increasing. Female offenders are going to jail. …

“The two women the media seized on as examples of lenient sentencing — Debra Lafave of Florida and Sandra Beth Geisel of New York — turn out to be exceptions. A judge has rejected Lafave’s no-jail plea deal, so in her case, stay tuned. Geisel is the only multiple-victim offender who got less than a year behind bars.”

DNA gold rush

“For the purveyors of the reigning dogmas, who have devoted decades to demonizing anyone who points out the impact of genetic diversity on modern life as a threat to civilization, the onrushing tidal wave of DNA evidence must seem apocalyptic.

“In the words of R.E.Ms hit 1987 song, to the predominant intellectuals, ‘It’s the end of the world as we know it.’ …

“Unfortunately for the old guard, there are numerous ambitious young scientists out there who view smashing the prevailing prevarications as great fun. One of them told me … how lucky he is to be working in the field of genetics in 2006 — when new data is pouring in every week, and major discoveries are lying around waiting to be picked up, like gold nuggets in the Sierra Nevada streams in 1849.”

Harry’s hypocrisy

“Singer, dancer and hug-therapist-for-commie-dictators Harry Belafonte once again slipped on a peel on the poopdeck of the banana boat while in Venezuela when he referred to President Bush as the ‘greatest terrorist in the world.’

“This in itself isn’t surprising. Stupid things exit Belafonte’s mouth at a higher frequency than gamma rays emanating from a nebula. …

“The problem, as far as Democrat politicians are concerned, is what to do with the politically active Belafonte going into an election season. How can they not have their picture taken with Harry, while still getting close enough to accept a campaign donation? …

“Harry Belafonte is a member of an elite club of vacuous entertainers, which includes Danny Glover and many others, who think that Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and other dictators, totalitarian fist-wavers, and tin-pot pinheads represent what is the ultimate in governmental nirvana.

“You’ll also notice that proponents of these systems of government also have one thing in common: They’re never dumb enough to actually live in a place where it’s practiced.”
