Pranalytica wins laser array contract
SANTA MONICA | The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has contracted Pranalytica Inc. to support an Army Aviation and Missile Command Phase I project.
DARPA selected U.S. company Pranalytica to participate in the Army Aviation and Missile Command’s Beam Combining of High-Power Quantum Cascade Laser Arrays project.
Officials said Pranalytica will provide beam-combining support for the project, designed to support Defense Department directional infrared countermeasures initiatives.
CALIFORNIA
MCA to refurbish Navy computers
IRVINE | MCA Computer Corp. has been contracted to provide the U.S. Navy with refurbished computer equipment and support services.
U.S. company MCA, an information technologies supplier, was contracted by the U.S. government to provide end-of-life legacy server equipment in support of a Navy program.
Under the deal, MCA will provide the Navy with spare computer parts and power supplies along with technical and engineering support services.
MICHIGAN
Bates Footwear wins boot contract
ROCKFORD | The U.S. Army has contracted Bates Footwear to deliver its combat boots capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions.
Michigan-based Bates was awarded a $13 million contract for the delivery of its temperate-weather combat boots. Under the deal, Bates will be expected to deliver approximately 165,000 pairs of the boots to support troop deployments.
The temperate-weather boots, widely deployed by the Army in harsh-weather combat environments such as Afghanistan, are waterproof and have breathable Gore-Tex to meet demanding terrain circumstances.
COLORADO
Savi Tech expands logistics software
DENVER | Savi Technology has extended its asset-management software technologies to address the evolving logistics requirements of the U.S. Defense Department.
U.S. company Savi announced the extension of its SmartChain software with the Integrated Global Unique Identification Enterprise Solution. Savi, a Lockheed Martin subsidiary, said its SmartChain with the I-GUIDES extension will help the Defense Department identify, track and manage its supply-chain logistics.
Officials said the I-GUIDES, originally available from Lockheed Martin, has been widely deployed with the Defense Department and other defense suppliers.
ARIZONA
Defense Logistics buys BAE body armor
PHOENIX | The U.S. Defense Logistics Agency has contracted BAE Systems to deliver its tactical body armor to support the protection of troops in combat zones.
British company BAE was contracted for 75,000 of its widely deployed Outer Tactical Vests with ballistic inserts, yoke collars, throat protectors and other armor protections.
BAE officials said the company’s facilities in Tennessee would be responsible for the manufacturing and delivery of the Outer Tactical Vests and components.
SOUTH CAROLINA
Marine contract modified for MRAPs
LADSON | The U.S. Marine Corps has modified a contract with Force Protection Inc. for the delivery of upgraded Cougar mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles.
South Carolina-based Force Protection was awarded the contract modification from the Marine Corps Systems Command. Under the $158 million deal, Force Protection will deliver its Cougar MRAPs upgraded with Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Corp.’s TAK-4 independent-suspension kits.
Force Protection and Oshkosh partnered to integrate the Cougar MRAP with the independent-suspension system as part of an effort to better handle the difficult terrain troops are facing in Afghanistan.
VIRGINIA
CACI awarded intel data contract
The U.S. Army has contracted CACI International Inc. to provide life cycle management support for the Distributed Common Ground System-Army.
U.S. company CACI was awarded the DCGS-A deal as part of its strategic services sourcing contract with the Army. Under the $38 million prime contract, CACI will provide the system with engineering and program management services to support intelligence and electronic warfare.
Officials said the DCGS-A integrates data sources in order to streamline the information for use in operations by commanders in the field.
ARIZONA
Army tests WIN-T system
SCOTTSDALE | The U.S. Army recently concluded a limited user test of the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical Increment 2 supported by General Dynamics.
The test - conducted by the Army’s 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division in Washington state and the 3rd Infantry Division in Georgia - was designed to measure the capabilities of the WIN-T Increment 2 network across wide geographic areas.
The WIN-T Increment 2 is under development to support multiple missions and tasks simultaneously through on-the-move networking capabilities. Officials said the test is being reviewed by the Army Evaluation Center.
PENNSYLVANIA
Defense Solutions joins vehicle team
EXTON | Defense Solutions Inc. has been selected to support a new NATO-compatible armored vehicle set to be manufactured in Ukraine.
U.S. company Defense Solutions announced it will join a team producing the BTR-4 armored personnel carrier, designed to support the military and police markets.
Officials said Defense Solutions will provide the BTR-4, expected to be manufactured in Ukraine and assembled in Macedonia, with engines, transmissions and communications upgrades, among others, to support interoperable NATO communications, operations and training.
