Rep. Alan Grayson, Florida Democrat, has a reputation for inflammatory rhetoric, but he took it even further when showing his disdain for Federal Reserve senior adviser Linda Robertson by calling her a “K Street whore” in a recent radio interview.
“Here I am the only member of Congress who actually worked as an economist, and this lobbyist, this K Street whore, is trying to teach me about economics,” Mr. Grayson fumed in a segment for a radio program hosted by Alex Jones on the Genesis Communications Network.
“This K street whore is trying to teach me about economics,” Mr. Jones repeated back to the congressman. “Who was that particular K street whore?”
“I don’t remember her name,” said Mr. Grayson, who once worked as an economist and conveyed that he did not feel Ms. Robertson was qualified to lecture Congress on financial matters. “This was several months ago, but you can look it up. The lobbyist who was the head lobbyist for Enron was hired with our taxpayer money to try and spin this office’s effort to try and get transparency at the Federal Reserve.”
Mr. Jones confirmed later in his show that Mr. Grayson was referring to Ms. Robertson.
Grayson spokesman Todd Jurkowski declined to comment on the exchange when asked by The Washington Times for clarification.
Although Mr. Grayson is a freshman on Capitol Hill he is already well-known for making politically incorrect remarks. He’s called radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh a “has-been hypocrite loser” and accused Republicans on the House floor of wanting people to “die quickly.”
When the Republican Party asked him to apologize, he took again to the House floor, this time invoking the Nazi genocide against the Jews. “I apologize to the dead and their families that we haven’t voted sooner to end this holocaust in America,” he said.
During a television interview on MSNBC’s “Hardball” with Chris Matthews on Friday, Mr. Grayson compared former Vice President Dick Cheney to a vampire. “I have trouble listening to what [Mr. Cheney] says sometimes because of the blood that drips from his teeth while he’s talking,” he said. “But my response is this: He’s just angry because the president doesn’t shoot old men in the face. But, by the way, when he was done speaking, did he just then turn into a bat and fly away?”
Conservative provocateur John Ziegler is offering to donate $100,000 to MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann’s favorite charity if the “Countdown” host has him on his program to talk about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
“If he accepts, I will crush him in the debate and the truth gets out to an audience that never would hear it, and a charity gets 100 grand,” Mr. Ziegler, who produced a documentary about Mrs. Palin, wrote in an e-mail. “If he doesn’t then he is exposed as a coward and a fraud.”
When asked how he has such money to spare, Mr. Ziegler said, “The offer is 100 percent real. I have an investment maturity coming due worth 100 grand and I wanted to make a strong point. The way I figure it there is no scenario where it isn’t worth it.”
“I guess I am a ‘put your money where your mouth is’ conservative,” he added.
Mr. Ziegler recently caused a commotion at the Western Conservative Political Action Conference, where he targeted American Conservative Union Chairman David Keene, whom Mr. Ziegler believes has not been sufficiently supportive of Mrs. Palin. Mr. Ziegler publicly confronted Mr. Keene at the conference by brandishing money and asking him whether that would help get him to write a positive column about the former Republican vice-presidential candidate.
President Obama assured Democratic donors at a fundraiser that he intends to close Guantanamo Bay, which the folks at Keep America Safe quickly countered with their own vow.
“We are going to close Guantanamo,” Mr. Obama told donors at a Miami fundraiser Monday evening. “We are serious about this.”
Early Tuesday morning, the board of directors of Keep America Safe, which includes Liz Cheney, Debra Burlingame and William Kristol, fired off this response:
“President Obama repeated his pledge to close Guantanamo last night at a fundraiser in Miami. We counter with this pledge: We will work with other concerned citizens and legislators to keep this safe and humane detention facility open. ‘Closing Guantanamo’ means importing some terrorists into the United States and releasing others to rejoin their fellow terrorists elsewhere. This should be unacceptable to the president. It is unacceptable to us.”
