MUNICH, GERMANY — The “International Herald Tribune” indicated yesterday that Germany may be a year ahead of getting its deficit in line with European Union standards. I believe I know how they do it — they whack Internet users with all sorts of prices. At my hotel, it cost $2.50 for 15 minutes; at the Franz Josef Strauss International Airport — named for the rotund, imposing former Bavarian premier — it’s about $10 for half an hour.
Access is good and speeds are fast. After an unexpected layover here en route to Izmir, Turkey, it’s good to be back online, even while I await the boarding call!
