Barbara Allen, 87, hospital volunteer

Barbara Robinson Allen, an Arlington resident who spent more than 40 years as a hospital volunteer, died Aug. 21 of cardiac arrest at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. She was 87.

Born in New Haven, Conn., Mrs. Allen graduated from Yale University in 1940 with a degree in fine arts.



Along with her husband, C. Stanley Allen, whom she married in 1941, she traveled widely throughout Europe, the Far East and South America.

She maintained homes in Arlington and in Gilford, N.H., where she had spent her summers since childhood. Her volunteer work at Arlington Hospital dated from the early 1960s.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Barbara A. Beck of Falls Church; three sons, Peter of New Haven, Conn., Christopher of Sterling, Va., and Kip of Laconia, N.H.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
