Last night at MCI Center:
34 Year difference in age between Georgetown’s John Thompson III, 38, and Temple’s John Chaney, 72.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Temple junior guard Mardy Collins, a preseason All-Atlantic 10 selection, clearly was the best player on the floor. Whenever Georgetown attempted to challenge the Owls’ lead, Collins silenced the Hoyas’ run with a shot from the outside. He had a game-high 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting, including 5-for-5 from the 3-point arc.
SEEN AND HEARD
Hoyas freshman Jeff Green brought the crowd to its feet with a nasty rejection of Temple guard Mark Tyndale’s attempted dunk. The 6-foot-5 Tyndale soared in for a one-hand slam with three minutes left in the first half. Green, who is listed at 6-8 and 225 pounds, came from the opposite side of the basket and snuffed Tyndale. The force of Green’s block sent Tyndale crashing to the floor, where he landed on his back and had his head bounce hard off the wood.
