Double delight

Here are two multimedia entertainment items to try:

• “Sesame Street: A Magical Halloween Adventure” from Sony Wonder. (For DVD-enabled home entertainment centers and computers, $12.98.)

Big Bird, Telly, Zoe and friends explore the rituals and celebrations of the scariest holiday of the year through a DVD-based episode from the famed television show. After Mumford the Magician invites a trio of Sesame Street monsters to a trick party, children watch the gang try to get to the bash as co-star Caroline Rhea (as Gilda the Great) frets their impending arrival.

Through song, live-action puppetry, animation and family interaction, preschoolers learn about costumes, carving pumpkins, making apple cider, baking pumpkin seeds and creating scarecrows.

Bonuses include dressing Elmo as a cowboy, astronaut, pirate or combination of the three in a set-top game and a journey with Ernie involving looking for items that grow.

• “What’s New Scooby-Doo? Volume 3: Halloween Boos and Clues” from Warner Home Video. (For DVD-enabled, home-entertainment centers and computers, $19.99.)

As the Mystery Inc. gang infiltrates all avenues of learning multimedia, they also can be seen in less educational mediums. This DVD highlights the latest cartoon series incarnation of Scooby-Doo through the four episodes — “The Vampire Strikes Back,” “Mummy Scares Best,” “High-Tech House of the Future,” and “She Sees Sea Monsters by the Sea Shore.”

A smattering of hair-raising special features include a quick look at three of the episodes’ villains and, the most interesting, a 13-minute back-lot tour of the famous Warner Bros. Studios that offers children a bit of information on the making of major motion pictures.
