QUOTABLE
“I can’t believe I’ve been here that long. I’d like to thank [Notre Dame athletic director] Kevin White for rescuing me from Newark.”
” Notre Dame coach Mike Brey, formerly the coach at Delaware, on collecting his 100th victory.
BIG PLAYS
Georgetown’s Jeff Green had a sensational block of a shot by Notre Dame senior Chris Thomas, and Notre Dame’s Jordan Cornette set a devastating screen on Hoyas sophomore guard Ray Reed. Green’s block of Thomas was “SportsCenter” stuff. The freshman forward lined up Thomas on a breakaway and humiliated the Irish center by erasing his finger roll with a backboard-rattling swat.
SEEN AND HEARD
GREEN MACHINE: Georgetown freshman Jeff Green all but wrapped up the league’s Rookie of the Year Award last week, collecting his fifth rookie of the week honor. Syracuse one-and-done stud Carmelo Anthony (11 times rookie of the week in 2002-03) and Georgetown flash Allen Iverson (10 times in 1994-95) top the league’s career list of first-year honors.
