July 9-10: A Soldier’s Life on Campaign — the 141st Anniversary of the Battle of Monocacy, at Monocacy National Battlefield, Frederick. Re-enactors depict the Confederates’ attempt to threaten Washington and the Union’s delay of the march. Artillery and infantry demonstrations. Saturday night campfire, music. Free. July 16: Living-history presentation of a Confederate surgeon portrayed by Jim Townsend, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., National Museum of Civil War Medicine, 48 E. Patrick St., Frederick. Information: 301/695-1864.



Through Nov. 27: The Surratt House Museum features a photographic exhibit tracing the assassination of Abraham Lincoln from the plot to capture the president through the trial and the carrying out of the conspirators’ sentences. The exhibit is part of public tours of the museum at 9118 Brandywine Road, Clinton. Open Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. Last tour a half-hour before closing. Information: 301/868-1121 or www.surratt.org.

Today and tomorrow: Yankees in the South on Independence Day, living history focusing on Union occupation of Fredericksburg and Stafford County on the Fourth of July, 1862.
