Bryan brothers reach doubles title match

Mike and Bob Bryan wasted no time securing their spot in the doubles' championships at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, slamming Dmitry Tursunov and Igor Kunitsyn 6-0, 6-3.

The Bryan brothers have won four titles this year, including Wimbledon and the Australian Open, and they have appeared in three more finals.

The world's No. 1 doubles team needed just 43 minutes to advance last night.

"We got on them so big early, that sometimes it is hard to get your energy up," Bob Bryan said about the tighter score in the second set. "You are cruising so much and winning so easily that sometimes you go a little flat. So we were struggling a little at the end just keeping that intensity going."

The Bryan brothers will face second-seeded Paul Hanley and Kevin Ullyett in the finals at noon on the stadium court today.

Hanley and Ullyett advanced to their fifth doubles final this year by taking out third-seeded Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich 6-4, 7-6 (4).

Hanley and Ullyett did not lose a service game the entire match, winning 75 percent of their service points.

The duo this year owns a 34-10 record and four titles. Their last championship came at the London/Queen's Club tournament in June where they defeated the No. 1 (the Bryan brothers) and No. 2 (Jonas Bjorkman and Max Mirnyi) doubles teams in the world.

Hanley and Ullyett are currently fourth in the Stanford ATP Doubles Race, 339 points behind the Bryan brothers.

"Well [today] we are playing a big-time team," Bob Bryan said. "Whenever you play a top-eight team in doubles, you have to play your best tennis or you are going to lose. We know what we have to do. We are just going to have to play well. Compete. That's it."

Another sellout

Crowds swelled to a second consecutive sellout of more than 7,500 people as comfortable temperatures and clear skies brought Washington tennis fans out.

Last night was the fourth time stadium court was filled to capacity. Friday night's session has so far drawn the most fans, 7,614, with luxury suites filled to a standing-room only level.

Friday's noon session attracted just 5,931 fans.

The tournament is averaging 6,833 fans per session.

Obziler reaches finals

In the $75,000 USTA women's circuit event, Tzipi Obziler upset fifth-seeded Nicole Pratt 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 to advance to the finals. She will face third seed Camille Pin, who defeated Aleksandra Wozniak 6-3. 6-1 yesterday.
