The Caps have signed Darren Machesney, 19, of the Brampton Battalion in the Ontario Hockey League. The goalie went 28-17-1-2 this season leading Brampton to a division title.

OVECHKIN WATCH

Rookie Alex Ovechkin had two goals and assisted on another to give him 89 points on the season; only four Caps have scored more.

KEY PLAYER

Jamie Heward, drafted in the first round in 1989, played in his 300th NHL game. His career was reborn when the new rules changes.
