SEEN AND HEARD AT REDSKIN PARK

Lots and lots of people were at Fan Appreciation Day - more than 28,000 according to a release the team put out. That breaks the record set in 2004 for Joe Gibbs’ return. Fans encircled the practice fields, even sitting and standing five and six deep on the sideline of the far field. There were plenty of fans who were also still out on Loudoun County Parkway and Waxpool Road while the scrimmage was going on. People parked at nearby business complexes and walked to the park. The parking lots opened at 11:30 a.m., but the release said cars starting lining up before sunrise.

QUOTABLE

“I’ve never seen this many people here. This is fantastic. Our bus got here at 11 [a.m.] and people were already lined up to get in the building. This is a lot to live up to.”

- Ethan Albright on the record crowd at Redskin Park

LONG SHOT OF THE DAY

CB MATTERAL RICHARDSON, 6-0, 202, Arkansas

Richardson is an undrafted free agent who started 35 games in his career with the Razorbacks. In Saturday’s scrimmage, he had two tackles and a pass breakup while also contributing solid coverage on a couple of other incompletions. Still he is one of five guys fighting for likely two spots behind Fred Smoot, Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers - and fourth-round pick Justin Tyron and Leigh Torrence are favorites for those jobs.
