Porsche Annapolis to open Saturday

Porsche Annapolis, billed as Maryland’s only exclusive Porsche dealer and service center, holds its grand opening Saturday at 20 Hudson St. from 5 to 8 p.m.

As part of the event, the dealership will display limited-edition Porsche sports cars including a Bahama yellow 911 model from 1966, a white 1976 turbo Carrera, a polar ice blue 1976 turbo Carrera and several 911 GT3 RS models.

The blue Carrera is one of only 530 models manufactured that year.

It was the first of its type to be brought to the U.S. for display at the New York Auto Show.

A number of Porsche Cars North America executives are expected to be on hand for the grand opening, according to the dealership.

‘Safe’ drivers use cell phones anyway

Four out of five cell-phone owners admit to driving while on the phone, even though 98 percent of all motorists surveyed consider themselves to be “safe drivers,” Motor Matters reported.

Nearly half of the drivers surveyed consider cell phones and other high-tech gadgetry to be the most dangerous driving distractions. Nationwide Insurance and the National Safety Council plan to host a symposium to explore ways to curb distracted driving, according to the National Institute for Highway Safety.
