EDITORIAL: Re-elect Frank Wolf

Even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, has called him “an unmatched leader in his commitment to human rights.”

While Mr. Wolf has long worked with Democrats and Republicans on these issues, he has not shied away from criticizing the current Republican administration. Earlier this year, for example, Mr. Wolf was blunt in his criticism of President Bush’s decision to travel to Beijing for the Summer Olympics, at one point likening the Communist Chinese government’s stage-managing of events to the 1936 Munich Olympics. Mr. Wolf is pro-life, and he has been a staunch advocate of expanded offshore oil drilling. He also is a leading critic of the congressional Democratic leadership’s efforts to delay energy exploration in U.S. waters.

His opponent, Democrat Judy Feder, won 41 percent of the vote in her unsuccessful 2006 campaign to unseat Mr. Wolf. This time, Mrs. Feder, an orthodox liberal, hopes to do better by pushing a redistributionist scheme to extend “tax cuts” to households with incomes of less than $250,000, while increasing taxes on those with incomes above that level. Northern Virginians cannot afford Mrs. Feder, who also has called for increasing taxes to pay for Medicaid.

The choice for Northern Virginia is Mr. Wolf. The Washington Times endorses the re-election of Rep. Frank Wolf.
