DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, says only people who are in the country legally should be covered by a government funded health care program.
He also said he’s opposed to any plan that “determines when you’re going to pull the plug on grandma.”
Grassley kicked off a daylong series of town hall meetings on proposed health care legislation Wednesday, beginning with a stop outside the Winterset Public Library in central Iowa.
People at the meeting were vocal, but it lacked the loud outbursts and disruptions seen at other meetings across the country.
Grassley says end-of-life counseling should take place 20 years before a life ends and not when someone is dying. He also said he would continue to support abstinence education.
