By Connie Keane MOTOR MATTERS

Good for Ford: Internal and external studies show a positive trend in the percentage of consumers with favorable opinions about Ford and growing numbers of consumers who are willing to consider purchasing a Ford vehicle due to improved fuel economy, smart technology and higher residual values.

The Ford Focus is among the most fuel-efficient compact cars in America with an EPA highway rating of 35 mpg. "We have the freshest line of new products in the industry," says Ken Czubay, vice president, U.S. marketing, sales and service.

Dear Auto Doctor: James asks: Why does my 2000 Kia Sephia have a long engine-turnover crank time? If I turn the key to the on position for a few seconds, the engine will start instantly. The dealer replaced the fuel pump, charcoal canister, ignition parts and fuel filter.

Answer: It sounds like a low-fuel-pressure problem, in which case a technician will need access to a fuel-pressure tester. There can be a problem with either a leaking fuel injector, fuel-pressure regulator or valve in the fuel pump.

There could also be an electrical problem with the fuel-pump circuit, causing no power for energizing the fuel pump.
