OPINION:
President Obama should answer this question: Mr. President, who told you that the two men who broke into professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.’s house were black? It has been established that Lucia Whalen, who called the police, didn’t identify the men by race. Thus, if Mr. Obama declines to answer this question, we can conclude that he, knowing that one of the men was his friend, was the first to identify at least one of the men as being black, giving him an opportunity to label the episode a “teachable moment” about racial profiling. He was right about that part. A white cop was racially profiled — twice, once by a professor and once by a president.
