ANALYSIS/OPINION:

The true implications and effects of the Climategate e-mails have been understated, minimized or dismissed. As a scientist, I will summarize those e-mails: The anthropogenic global warming (AGW) community lied. Its members lied to themselves, and they lied to other scientists. They lied to everyone.

The issue may seem complicated, so I will provide an analogy. A murder has been committed. Mrs. Smith’s head has been clubbed in, but no footprints, fingerprints or murder weapon are found. The detective is so convinced that the husband did it that he ventures into the garage, where he finds Mr. Smith’s golf clubs. He takes one of the clubs, dips it in the pool of blood and then throws it into the bushes of the backyard, where later it is found. The medical examiner finds that the indents in Mrs. Smith’s head do not match the club, and the lab finds no skin or hair on the club. Nevertheless, the jury finds the blood on the club damning and convicts Mr. Smith. The questions about the club linger, but how could a single detective fake such a thing without being seen? Later, an e-mail exchange, which indicates collusion between the detective and some other officers, is unearthed.

Just as in this hypothetical double crime, there is evidence against global warming - lots of evidence. The evidence against global warming is so convincing that some people proclaimed a conspiracy, and they were ridiculed. What we have found now is that much of the counterevidence has been fabricated, and there was indeed a conspiracy. A major journal was strong-armed into publishing the forged data and promoting its conclusions. Other journals have been pressured to decline works that undermine the AGW position. The house of cards is falling down, but who does the media stand by? They are saying the fake evidence doesn’t matter because global warming is still happening.
