PLAYER OF THE GAME

The Cowboys’ quarterback continued his December hot streak and carved up the Redskins’ defense. Absent a running game for most of the evening, Romo completed 25 of 38 passes for 286 yards, one touchdown and a deflected interception.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Score: Dallas 7, Washington 0
Quarter: Second, 9:03 remaining
Situation: Cowboys’ ball, first-and-10 on the Dallas 28
The play: Quarterback Tony Romo flipped a short pass to tight end Jason Witten, and Witten did the rest, outrunning safety LaRon Landry and nearly everybody else to the Washington 3. The 69-yard play was the longest of Witten’s career, and it set up Marion Barber’s touchdown run on the next play that gave the Cowboys a 14-0 lead.
UP NEXT
Washington Redskins (4-11) at San Diego Chargers (12-3)
When: Sunday, 4:15 p.m.
Where: Qualcomm Stadium
TV/radio: Ch. 5, ESPN 980
Outlook: It wasn’t as ugly as last week’s 45-12 loss to the New York Giants, but at least the Redskins scored in that game. Sunday’s 17-0 defeat to the Cowboys was the first time Washington was shut out in more than four years. Quarterback Jason Campbell again took a beating, and the running game did little. At least the defense settled down after a shaky first half. San Diego beat Tennessee 42-17 on Friday for its 10th straight win, clinching the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs. The Chargers might be the best team in the conference, if not the entire league. The Redskins’ hopes of winning depends entirely on whether San Diego rests its starters.
