LEESBURG, Va. (AP) — Leesburg Police say a couple has been freed and a suspect is in custody after a hostage standoff.

Officers say both hostages, an elderly man and woman, were released unharmed around 9 p.m. Friday.

Police were called to a jewelry store in Leesburg about 11:30 a.m. Friday after an apparent armed robbery. The suspect fled on foot, broke into a home and stole an SUV from the family there.

That vehicle was found abandoned. Police received a 911 call from a home where, the people said, the suspect had broken in and was holding them hostage.
