Bicyclists took the inaugural ride on the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail on Saturday, National Trails Day. The 1.1-mile, 12-foot-wide trail stretches from Alexandria across the Potomac River and into Prince George’s County. Cyclists said they were enthusiastic about the trail and wanted D.C. and Maryland officials to develop connecting trails so that bikers would be able to loop back to Virginia. Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille and Prince George’s County Executive Jack B. Johnson led the first of about 100 bikers across the span on opening day. After the ride, Rep. James P. Moran (below), Virginia Democrat, quenched his thirst.
