Chris Crowley, senior vice president of sales at BCD Travel, a global travel management firm, is president-elect of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives. Mr. Crowley will become president of the Alexandria-based organization in May, when the term of current President Richard Crum ends.

Fiona Hill is returning to the Brookings Institution, a D.C. nonprofit public policy organization, as a senior fellow and director of the Center on the United States and Europe. Ms. Hill has been on leave from Brookings since June 2006 while she served as a national intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia at the National Intelligence Council.

FINANCE

• BB&T Capital Markets announced the retirement of Rick Knop, senior managing director and head of the international investment banking group. Mr. Knop, will continue to serve on BB&T’s D.C. advisory board. Mr. Knop was co-owner of Windsor Group LLC before it was acquired by BB&T in January 2005. Mr. Knop stepped down as co-head of the merged group in 2007 to form and lead the international investment banking arm of BB&T.

Adolph W. Ebersberger Jr. joined the Washington Group as a certified financial planner for the Bethesda firm, which is affiliated with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. Mr. Ebersberger has been a financial adviser for nearly 30 years, specializing in estate and retirement distribution planning.

HIGH TECHNOLOGY & TELECOMMUNICATIONS

• QinetiQ North America, a technology contractor based in McLean, named David F. Toomey III senior vice president for cyberoperations in the company’s mission solutions group. Mr. Toomey joins QinetiQ from the Air Force, where he led a cybersecurity effort at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, for the past two years.

MEDIA

Lori McFarling was appointed chief marketing officer for education and distribution at Discovery Communications in Silver Spring. Ms. McFarling will be responsible for leading sales development, communications and sponsorship activities for the education and distribution divisions. Before, Ms. McFarling served as chief operating officer for Discovery’s Animal Planet and Kids Media division.

REAL ESTATE

• National mortgage banking firm Love Funding announced that Latoria A. Thompson joined the firm’s D.C. office as a senior underwriter. Ms. Thompson previously worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

• Evers and Co., a Washington residential real estate firm, recently acquired the Roberts-Burke Group, adding agents Bonnie Roberts-Burke, David Burke, Erin McCleary and Melanie Friedson to its roster.
