FREDERICK, Md. — Officials in Maryland say a man has died after he caught fire at a gas station pump.
Spokesman Joseph Zurolo says the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office isn’t sure what ignited the blaze early Wednesday.
But a Frederick County sheriff’s deputy says he arrived to find 26-year-old Ainsley Gordon Jr. of Germantown on fire in a parking lot next to the gas station. His Nissan sport utility vehicle and the gas pump it was parked at also were engulfed in flames.
A state police helicopter flew Mr. Gordon to the Washington Hospital Center burn unit in Washington, where he died.
The fire caused $60,000 in damage.
