JASON CAMPBELL [up]
Battered and bruised, Redskins QB turns in a gutty performance
ALBERT HAYNESWORTH [side]
Yeah, he can play, but how do you fall for getting drawn offside on fourth down?
LADELL BETTS [up]
Replaces Clinton Portis (concussion) and plays better — much better
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Michael Turner
With 166 yards on just 18 carries, including touchdown runs of 30 and 58 yards, the bruising running back provided the bulk of the Falcons’ offense.
PLAY OF THE GAME
Score: Atlanta 24, Washington 17
Quarter: Fourth, 11:36 remaining
Situation: Falcons’ ball, first-and-10 on the Atlanta 42
The play: The Redskins climbed back into the game with 14 straight points. But that was before Turner broke tackles by LaRon Landry and DeAngelo Hall en route to a 58-yard touchdown run that essentially put the game away for the Falcons.
UP NEXT
Denver Broncos (6-1) at Washington Redskins (2-6)
When: Sunday, 1 p.m.
Where: FedEx Field
TV/radio: Ch. 9, ESPN 980
Outlook: After falling behind 24-3 to Atlanta on Sunday, the Redskins appeared to be finished. But they scored 14 straight points to get within a touchdown before their defense caved in and allowed the Falcons to score the clinching touchdown. Despite twice leaving with injuries, quarterback Jason Campbell was effective when given time, and Ladell Betts ran hard in place of Clinton Portis. The Broncos, who play Pittsburgh at home Monday night, lost for the first time last week against Baltimore, managing only a touchdown. Denver leads the league in defense, and quarterback Kyle Orton has been competent.
