LETTER TO EDITOR: What women want

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and her colleagues offer an articulate case against the Pelosi health care plan (“Together against the Pelosi plan,” Opinion, Friday). House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would have the American people believe she is the only voice of women in Congress, which is simply not true.

At the Independent Women’s Forum, we firmly believe that a health care system based upon abstract ideas of social justice will lead to delayed and denied care - and that is unacceptable. IWF wants to see policies that will increase affordability, access, quality, innovation, personal choice and individualized care. The House reform proposal does nothing to address these issues and will lead to worse health care for all Americans in the long run.

At the end of the day, Mrs. McMorris Rodgers and her colleagues trust the American people to make their own health care decisions, and the speaker trusts government. In 2010, I hope the American people remember that.
