WEEKEND REWIND IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Capitals off to hot start — The Redskins may be the District’s most popular team, but there’s no doubt which team is the most exciting. After a six-goal outburst in Saturday’s home opener, the Caps are averaging five goals a game and are not only the District’s most explosive team but the NHL’s as well. And if Alex Ovechkin keeps scoring like this (three goals in two games), a 70-goal season could be in store.
Redskins hold off Buccaneers — No one except Dan Snyder knows for sure whether Jim Zorn needed to win Sunday to keep his job, but after trailing 10-0 at halftime it sure seemed as if this might have been it for the second-year Redskins coach. But thanks to a strong second half, Zorn will keep his job… for now.
TWT FIVE MLB POSTSEASON STORYLINES
1. Rocktober — The Rockies followed the same script to win the NL wild card that they used two seasons ago, finishing with a strong September. Will it be enough to send them back to the World Series?
2. Red Sox vs. Angels… again — The Angels have never beaten the Red Sox in a postseason series, including three losses since 2004.
3. Fading Dodgers — Los Angeles was never the same after Manny Ramirez’s 50-game suspension, and it hobbled into the playoffs. Can the Dodgers recapture their early-season form?
4. Fresh Yankees — The Bombers wrapped up a postseason berth early, while the Tigers and Twins have to play Tuesday to determine the AL Central champ.
5. Phillies try for repeat — Don’t count on it — unless Brad Lidge suddenly rediscovers his 2008 form.
