TAKE YOUR PICK IF THE NFL PLAYOFFS BEGAN NEXT WEEK, WHO WOULD WIN THE SUPER BOWL?
Indianapolis — Peyton Manning and the Colts are off to a perfect start, and Indianapolis ranks seventh in the NFL in total defense.
Denver — The Broncos feature the league’s top-ranked defense and an exciting young offense driven by quarterback Kyle Orton and rookie running back Knowshon Moreno.
New England — Did you see what Tom Brady and Co. did to the Tennessee Titans? No team has more firepower or better coaching.
Minnesota — The season’s feel-good story features ageless wonder Brett Favre handing off to Adrian Peterson. “AD” carried the Vikings to the playoffs last season. Now he’s got Hall of Fame help.
New Orleans — Drew Brees is playing on a level all his own, and the Saints are 5-0 and lead the NFL by miles with a +99 differential in spite of facing arguably the toughest nondivision start of any team in the league (at Philadelphia, vs. Jets and Giants).
New York Giants — Sorry, but we saw all we needed from the defensive-minded Giants this weekend in New Orleans.
Our take — It’s tough to pick an NFC representative, but neither the Saints nor Vikings would beat the Indianapolis/New England winner. It’s hard to choose against the Colts, particularly given their home-field edge on the Patriots. But Sunday’s 59-0 victory showed again why New England at its best is the game’s top team. Nobody has a better combination of talent, coaching, experience and balance.
HE SAID WHAT?
“My vision is one of celebrations and banquets, diplomas and banners, rings and parades — a return of this legendary program back to its rightful place atop the mountain of college basketball.”
- New Kentucky coach John Calipari
