ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — A Montgomery County fire official says a tanker truck overturned and caught fire on an Interstate 270 overpass.

Capt. Oscar Garcia says firefighters called to the Montrose Road overpass around 4:45 a.m. Thursday were able to contain the blaze and kept gasoline from running into nearby storm drains.

The hazardous materials team and a truck from Dulles International Airport with foam for fire suppression were called in. Garcia says it took firefighters about 10 minutes to extinguish the fire once they began around 6:15 a.m.

Garcia says the tanker driver was assessed at the scene and was not taken to a hospital.

I-270 was closed in both directions for a time and Garcia says Montrose Road is closed indefinitely while the integrity of the overpass is assessed.
