A D.C. Council investigation has found that city officials broke no laws when they attempted to donate a fire truck and ambulance to the Dominican Republic.

A council report released Wednesday found that the handling of the gift was hastily arranged outside traditional procedures but that no one involved in the donation broke any city laws. The report said the donation was a “pet project.” Two council committees reached similar conclusions in separate reports.

Both vehicles were returned to the city. The city’s independent inspector general is also looking into the matter.
