The Transportation Security Administration officers at airports need a lot more training, sophistication and education in order to deal properly with the flying public (“Bomb suspect trained in Pakistan; Naturalized American caught on Dubai flight,” Page 1, May 5).

Recently, while flying to celebrate Passover with my family, I was stopped and searched because I was carrying homemade cranberry sauce, horseradish, a roasted egg and other small ceremonial items with which to celebrate the holiday. I am 75 years old. TSA workers were going to confiscate all of my hard work - until we figured out how to send it all in our checked baggage. (Do things not blow up in luggage?) We know of someone who had whitefish salad confiscated, too (although that person did get a written apology).

So people like us, who bring food through security at airports, get our items confiscated, but a terrorist who just left a car ready to explode in Times Square, bought a one-way ticket with cash and whose name was supposed to be on the no-fly list, has no trouble getting through security and boarding a plane? Something is dangerously wrong with this entire system.
