OPINION:
I am struggling to understand the logic and actions of people who have crossed our southern borders in violation of our sovereignty and continue to demand rights by breaking the law through violent protests and the destruction of property (“Other states taking cue from Arizona illegals law,” Page 1, May 10).
The audacity of someone who can conduct himself in such a manner is simply mind-numbing and defies all standards of proper human behavior. Those who use lawlessness to defend a lawless act are making the case for the law-abiding citizens in Arizona and the rest of the country who object to such senseless activity under the guise of civil rights and social justice. The rancher in Arizona who was murdered allegedly by an illegal drug dealer lost his civil rights forever and will never see justice. I suggest the people who continue to protest violently for their rights consider the rights that were denied to the family of this gentleman and what it means to respect the laws of our land.
The Arizona law that was recently passed is an attempt to correct a problem that was created by our federal government, whose weak attempts at border control are responsible for the chaos that is going on across the country and the southern border in particular. Americans should not be jumping on the Rev. Al Sharpton’s bandwagon and supporting those who want to boycott Arizona. The state is trying to protect its border and its people and is doing the right thing. If Mr. Sharpton and his band of malcontents want to boycott something, they should boycott the Mexican government and the federal bureaucracy that encourages such illegal behavior and is at the root of this problem. Maybe then we can begin to address the solutions that will finally fix the problem and demonstrate to the world that we will defend our sovereignty and protect our legal citizens first and foremost.
It is a valuable lesson that President Obama and the Al Sharptons of America don’t seem to understand - but then again, maybe our leaders know something about lawless behavior that millions of Americans don’t. That’s an even scarier thought.
