D.C. commuters who use New York Avenue NE can expects delays starting Monday of as long as 30 minutes as crews begin a major bridge-renovation project.

Repairs to the New York Avenue bridge, about 400 yards east of Florida Avenue NE, are expected to take two years. Work begins on the westbound side, then is scheduled to switch to the eastbound side in 10 month.

Still, traffic in both directions will be squeezed from three lanes into two lanes.
