A D.C. police officer shot and wounded a robbery suspect in Southeast on Tuesday, officials said.
Police spokesman Araz Alali said the shooting occurred around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of South Capitol Street.
He said the man, identified as 31-year-old Paul Smith, faces charges including robbery while armed, felony assault on a police officer and kidnapping.
Police said the officer, who was on duty at the time, interrupted the robbery and ordered Mr. Smith to stop. Officer Alali said the officer fired at Mr. Smith after Mr. Smith aimed his gun at him.
The officer's name was not immediately released.
Mr. Smith's condition was not immediately known, but police said he was shot several times to the body.
