Firefighters are investigating a house fire in the Bloomingdale neighborhood that killed a man Tuesday night.
Firefighters arrived at the two-story house at 1810 1st St. NW at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a heavy fire.
Firefighters found Jeffrey Nedoroscik, 42, unconscious on the first floor, D.C. police said. Police could not say whether Mr. Nedoroscik lived in the house.
Battalion Chief Brian K. Lee said the fire was under control within 20 minutes, but firefighters remained on the scene for more than two hours after the fire started.
Chief Lee said the cause of the fire is under investigation and will not be released for at least another week. He could not say how many people live in the house.
