Our current system of political campaign funding desperately needs reform. Federal, state and even local politicians are having their opinions swayed by businesses and individuals that have enough money to donate hundreds, thousands and even millions of dollars to the campaigns of public officials.
Many politicians are essentially paid employees of big business because many candidates come from the business world where they were company CEOs or held other leading positions. Also, many lobbyists were once elected officials and are now providing campaign cash for their old buddies in the congressional club, which is influencing their opinions.
We should pass a law to curtail this use of funds to manipulate political candidates.
