D.C. police on Wednesday announced three arrests in the brutal beating and robbery of a 29-year-old man on Capitol Hill last month.
Police arrested Tommy Tyrone Branch, 21, of Fort Washington; Michael Moore, 18, of Landover; and an unidentified juvenile male in connection with the Aug. 18 attack in the 700 Block of North Carolina Avenue Southeast.
The victim, Thomas Maslin, had been out to a Washington Nationals game with friends and later stopped by the Tune Inn Restaurant and Bar for food, according to police reports. He used a credit card that was later taken in the robbery to pay his bill at the restaurant, and his friends left to return home around 12:30 a.m.
He was found at about 8:30 a.m. on a porch in the 700 block of North Carolina Avenue Southeast near Eastern Market suffering from a head wound after he was apparently struck on the back of the head with a blunt object. Mr. Maslin needed brain surgery and is still recovering from his injuries.
Police released surveillance video taken the night of the attack from an Exxon gas station just a few blocks from the location where Mr. Maslin was found. The video showed a four-door white or silver Hyundai Sonata pulling up to a gas station pump and a person getting out of the driver's side door.
The occupants of the car tried to use Mr. Maslin's credit card to pay, police said. In the video, the car appears to pull away without anyone pumping gas.
The transaction occurred less than 30 minutes from the time Mr. Maslin was last seen by his friends.
