Syndicated radio talk show host Don Imus has come under fire for comments he made during a recent broadcast in which he suggested that Jesus was a homosexual.

Mr. Imus said during a broadcast telephone interview with Democratic strategist Kirsten Powers earlier this week that an ancient text called the “Gospel of Judas Iscariot” suggests that “there’s some indication there that Jesus may have been gay.”

Ms. Powers characterized the view as unfounded and called the statement “ridiculous,” to which Mr. Imus replied, “I didn’t write it. Don’t be shooting the messenger here.”

The Gospel of Judas was written by Gnostics, and its text contrasts biblical teachings in a range of ways, according to a European news website. For instance, it alleges that Judas’ entire betrayal came at Christ’s request.
