Univision staffer calls Rubio a ‘token slave boy’ on Facebook

An assistant to a top executive at the Spanish-language television network Univision attacked Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Republican, on a staff member's Facebook page Wednesday, calling him a "loser" and a "token slave boy."

The comments came after the senator's spokesman, Alex Burgos, announced Mr. Rubio would give the GOP's first-ever bilingual rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union speech, The Miami Herald reports.

Angelica Artiles, executive assistant to Daniel Coronell, Univision's vice president of news, then posted a rant on the spokesman's Facebook page, reading: "Oh. wow, the loser is going to speak after our President. Anything to get publicity. Ask him to do us a favor and stay home that night."

"While you may be content with mediocrity under this President, I am not," Mr. Burgos fired back. "And fortunately neither are patriots like Marco Rubio who have opportunities like next Tuesday night to offer an alternative way forward. I am proud to work for him and actually feel sorry for you for writing this."

Ms. Artiles then proceeded to compare the senator to a Disney dwarf, a "token slave boy" and a "fool," The Herald reports.

Mr. Burgos did not comment any further.

The paper noted that Univision is owned by a Democratic donor, Haim Saban, who has called Republicans "anti-Hispanic." Comments were made in August on Mr. Rubio's Facebook page by someone using Univision's account, saying, "Jeb Bush is more Latino and talented than him."
