Mississippi mayoral candidate, 34, found dead

- The Washington Times - Thursday, February 28, 2013

Police are investigating the possible homicide of a Mississippi mayoral candidate found dead in the woods.

The body of Marco McMillian, 34, was discovered in woods about 30 miles from a roadway, according to Coahoma County Sheriff's Office statements in a United Press International report. Mr. McMillian had been a Democratic candidate for mayor in Clarksdale.

Investigators are treating the case as a homicide, UPI reports. The cause of death hasn't been determined.

ABC reports that a person has been taken into custody but has not been formally charged. ABC also says that Mr. McMillian's car was found crashed on the road. It was being driven by another person who was found injured behind the wheel, but police would not say whether that injured driver was the same as the person in custody, ABC said.
